GB Trials success

Both Josh Armstrong and Gavin Horsburgh had good rows at the GB trial held in Boston last week. They finished 3rd and 4th resepectively behind  World silver medal winners Sam Miejer and Chris Lawrie. As a result the boys have been invited to the GB winter camp in Nantes where work will begin on preparing next years World Championship boats.

Inverness Head 11 Wins

A group of 19 rowers went to compete at the Inverness Head weekend where we won no fewer than eleven events. Top performance goes to the boys double who produced there best race so far to be overall fastest double, 31 seconds ahead of  Edinburgh University. Other top boats were the Junior 18 girls quad( Somerside, Wicklow, Rankin and Neilson ) who were the fastest womens quad on the day and the fastest womens coxed four( cox Djoudi) . There was a great win for our Womens novice four ( Bouteleb, Cannon, Barber, Mackinnon and Gilchrist ) who finished first out of 21 crews ) and the Boys Junior four ( Glen , Watson, Abernethy and Urquhart ). The boys quad won J18 quads and lost narrowly to Edinburgh University by two seconds. Alex Rankin, Josh Armstrong an India Somersid won there respective sculling events and Urqhart and Abernethy domibated J16 doubles. Boutaleb and Cannon won J18 pairs.

Many thanks to the support team of Mrs Massaro, Miss Ryan, Mr Haggerty and Mr Somerside and to all the parents who came up to cheer us on.

Scullers Head

The club had a very successful day at the scullers head with Gavin Horsburgh leading the charge to finish fastest out of 118 scullers and take the headship. Josh Armstrong won J18 and Holly Wicklow J16 penants. In the double sculls division we were fastest overall in mens and womens doubles taking overall winners penant ( Josh and Gavin ) WJ18 ( Holly and Alex ) and WJ16 ( India and Becky ). There were also a number of solid indivual performances including Finlay Watson the third junior behind Gavin and Josh.
