Big success at GB Trials

We had some outstanding performances from our four athletes taking part in the GB trial regatta.

Alex Rankin and Holly Wicklow established themselves a the leading junior pair in Great Britain winning their time trial, semi and then final by 10 seconds from their nearest rivals.

Josh Armstrong and Gavin Horsburgh finished 2nd and 3rd in the time trial and 1st  & 2nd in thier semi. In the A final Gavin led most of the way but was overtaken by world silver medalists Sam Meijer and Chris Lawrie in the final sprint. Josh Armstrong had to miss the A final due to a muscle strain.

All four athletes should be invited to final trials in July.

Josh and Gavin make GB Team

Two of our top atheltes have been selcetd for the GB team to race at the Munich Junior regatta in early May. Josh Armstrong and Gavin Horsburgh have been selected for the Junior Quad a this top European event. Performances at this event will give a good indication of the speed required for British boats hopinmg to compete at the Junior World in Rio later this summer.

GB Trials Josh Armstrong

Josh had a strong performance at the GB Trial Regatta in Nottingham finishing 7th in the time trial only 4 seconds off second place. Conditions became challenging as the day progressed and Josh made the B final where he finished fifth or 11th overall. This was a great performance for a J16 sculler and the experience of difficult sculling conditions will benefit his continued development.

"I started my rowing at Glasgow Schools in 1953. It was a great sport and gave me many friends and fond memories. I recently came back down to the boat-club when my grandaughter decided to take up the sport as part of her school rowing programme. It brought back great memories to see so many young people rowing and enjoying their sport."
